black sea bass taco with mango guacamole

you guys know I'm a huge salmon lover. it's something that's quick, easy, and reliable, and super versatile as well. I also tend to gravitate towards fattier fish (all about those healthy fats!). but when Oceanbox offered to send me some fish to try, I jumped at the chance to get my hands on some unique fish that I normally wouldn't take the chance myself to buy.

because cooking is all about pushing past your comfort zones, right? oh wait, that's my philosophy on life as well.

May is ending, summer is coming (hopefully, though this weather in Boston doesn't seem like it), and I'm dreaming of days spent sunbathing... and missing California a little. these fish tacos are inspired by tacos back in SoCal, tacos my sister and I have made at home, and tacos I've had here in Boston at Loco Taqueria (hands down my favorite taco place in Boston). fresh and filling, this is definitely a combo I'll be making again.

serves 1 | gluten free, grain free, dairy free, paleo | time: 20 minutes

ingredients

  • 1 filet wild black sea bass (I got mine delivered via Oceanbox)
  • 1 Siete Foods tortilla (or tortilla of your choice)
  • handful mixed greens
  • blackening seasoning, to taste (for the fish)
  • 1 tbsp oil of choice (I used coconut, but avocado or olive oil would work equally as well)
  • mango guacamole:
    • 1/2 avocado
    • 1/2 atualfo mango
    • juice from 1/2 lime
    • sea salt, cayenne pepper, and paprika to taste

1. in a pan, heat up the oil. season the fish with the seasoning, and when the oil is hot, cook the fish on medium heat for about 3-5 minutes on each side.

2. while the fish is cooking, slice the avocado and mango. combine in a bowl and lightly mash with the lime juice, salt, cayenne, and paprika.

3. remove the fish from the pan and heat up the tortilla in the same pan.

4. once the tortilla is soft, remove from heat. layer the guac, mixed greens, and fish in the tortilla, and then top with the remaining guac, and enjoy!
